Making it sound like you
- Rewrite the first line until it can stand alone as the reason to keep watching. Everything else is secondary.
- Cut ruthlessly for length. Short-form rewards compression, and almost every first draft is twice as long as it needs to be.
- Keep the sentences short enough to say in one breath. Long written clauses are what make short-form delivery sound stilted.
- Write for sound off as well as on. If the point only lands through audio, add it to your on-screen text too.
Reading it out loud
Portrait framing needs much shorter lines than a landscape screen — around half the width — and the script needs to sit high, close to the lens. Rehearse the hook a few times before recording so the opening is delivered rather than read; the rest can be looser.
